The Widow’s Might is an Independent Christian Movie that has already received several recognitions.

In the beginning of the movie, one can say that it could boring and predictable ( Cos I also thought the same at first). But as the story goes, I found myself enjoying.

Yup, the movie is a bit sentimental, but I can say that it is a balanced drama flick. It also has touches of humor and thrill. I also have to mention that the film has some musical parts that are so enjoying.

The movie is really good for it is full of values. It is the kind of film that is worth watching with your family.

If you enjoyed watching Facing the Giants and Fireproof, I guarantee you that this movie is also worth your time.

Well for those who do not like movies that is full with values and of religious theme you might find this film sappy.

But if you are looking for a decent movie that you can watch with your loved ones, this is definitely worth a try.

Avatar, Extremely Fascinating!!!

Posted in: Movies | 1 Comment | January 18, 2010

Last December, This returning film of the blockbuster movie director James Cameron hit the big screens in the Philippines. I’ve heard several extremely good comments about this movie and those comments made me more excited to watch it. I also checked the reviews in IMDB, and I was amazed on how avid movie goers gave this film overwhelming positive reviews. In fact the entire first page of reviews in IMDB tells about how awesome and how great this film is.

And so I planned to watch Avatar. But since the Christmas Season is the time of the Metro Manila Film Festivals (MMFF), MMFF movies were prioritized in movie theaters and Avatar was not showed until the end of the festival.

With my friends, i was able to check it. And it’s also my first time in an IMAX 3D Theater so I was really looking forward that it would be a very great movie experience.

Well, if i have to say one thing about Avatar all that I can say is: “This Movie Blew Me Away”.

I was so amazed and fascinated by this movie. The actors are good, the concept is great, the plot is awesome, the CGI effects is superb, and the direction is amazing. Everything about this movie is almost perfect. I also have to mention how details were given importance (the Pandora world and its creatures are perfectly detailed that they will make your jaw drop, hehe) and I so loved it.

There’s a lot of great things about this film and they are too many to mention. And If I’m gonna rate it on a scale of 10, I’ll give an 11/10 rating for it. The movie still lingers on my mind and I wonder when will this end (chuckles). Now I know why it is on the 2nd position of the World’s Top Grossing Movies of all time. It is indeed Extremely Fascinating!!!

Sponge Cola – How They Came To Be?

Posted in: Bands | 5 Comments | January 14, 2010

Spong Cola is undeniably one of the most popular bands in the  Philippine Music Industry. Their songs are on MYX, MTV and several music television channels. Their songs are also among of the most played on radio. But did you know how Sponge Cola came to be?

Here’s their story that you might want to read:

Between 1998 to 2002, Ysmael “Yael” Yuzon and Reynaldo “Gosh” Dilay, both from Ateneo de Manila University – High School, met through the school’s theater guild, Teatro Baguntao. Yael Yuzon was then the frontman of a hard rock/metal band called White Chapel. Nevertheless, he decided to form a band with Gosh and two other members of the theater guild. They named the group Sponge after R.S. Surtee’s Mr. Sponge Sporting Tour.

The band won in several high school competitions boosting their popularity not just in their school but in other campuses, as well. Some members of the old lineup left and were replaced by Christopher “Chris” Cantada and Erwin “Armo” Armovit. The latter is the guitarist of another band Rampqueen, which was managed also by Sponge’s manager Raymond Fabul. Later however, they learned about a Detroit grunge band already using the name Sponge. “But we wanted to keep the word Sponge in our band name because people have already associated us with that name,” according to Yael. “So we decided to add ‘Cola’, since it’s an easy enough word to remember.” Sponge Cola was officially formed in summer of 2002.

Villa Estrella

I’ve seen this Movie on the big screen July last year. Well, I am not really fond of watching Filipino movies but since its a movie from Star Cinema, I decided to check the movie. The movie has a decent plot but I do not consider it original for it was somehow patterned to the Skeleton Key (a Jennifer Hudson starred Horror/ Thriller flick on 2005).

For me, the movie was a bit disappointing. It could have been better if they made it a bit more simpler and convincing. At first, I liked Maja Salvador’s acting for she was effective on her portrayal, but when she appeared as monster like sea creature with super powers like a gruesome slimy Alien, the movie began to suck. “Baler”, A Filipino Love Story with Historical Value

Posted in: Movies | 1 Comment | January 12, 2010

One of the best Filipino movies for me, I am from Maria Aurora a nearby town from Baler and i never known how great the story of the Baler Siege is until i watched the movie. I’m surprised to know that the love story of Celso and Feliza really did exist as what is mentioned on the last part of the movie. The direction is good, so as the cinematography. Though a lot of people keep on saying that there are character mismatches in the film, the actors and actresses particularly the lead characters really did a great job.During the 2008 Metro Manila Film Festival, Baler bagged 10 awards. These are the following: (more…)
