
There’s no doubt that World’s pound to pound boxer, Manny Pacquiao is one of the World’s greatest boxers of all time. However it seems like the Filipino people do not find him entertaining as an actor. His two MMFF movies namely “Anak ng Kumander” and “Wapakman” are among the least grossing movies in the last 5 years of the Metro Manila Film Festival. Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 “The Squeakquel” gave Charice another big break as she was included as one the movie’s casts. Charice plays the role of herself, the singer, representing her school in a singing contest wherein she will compete against the chipmunks. Charice performed Alicia Keys‘ song “No One” in the movie. MANILA, Nov. 30 (PNA)– Seven new and promising rock bands rocked the stage in friendly competition for the best band at the Music Hall of the SM Mall of Asia over the weekend when they performed live in front of hundreds of viewers and a board of judges composed of MTV Philippines’ Georgette Tengco, MTV SEA and Greater China’s head of content, Sari Trisulo, rock singer Rico Blanco and actress/singer Karylle.
The judges voted “Faircatch,” barely a year old rock/experimental band that thrives by composing straightforward but catchy songs influenced by numerous artists from a mixture of different genres ranging from rock to alternative, as the winner among the competing bands.
Faircatch earned the judges’ nod because of their creativity, originality of their craft, their crowd appeal as live performers, innovativeness of their lyrics and melody. (more…)
Four Filipino bands will be playing in front of thousands of expected Pinoy audience in the much awaited year-end event dubbed as Rakrakan Fest 2009 in Dubai.
The bands — Wolfgang, Itchyworms, Callalily and Brownman Revival — arrived Wednesday night in Dubai for the concert Friday night (December 4) at the Dubai Airport Expo.
A press conference attended by members of the print, broadcast and online media was also conducted. Afterwards, the members of the four bands took time out to have their pictures taken with their sponsors and even journalists.
According to ABS-CBN’s The Filipino Channel based in the Middle East, this is the fifth time that a Rakrakan Concert will be held at the United Arab Emirates. (more…)
